The larvae thrive on Privet and become most spectacular. Ivy has also been found to be a possible winter foodplant. Deciduous foodplants include Hawthorn, Cherry, Apple, Plum, Willows and Oaks. Undoubtedly other trees would be accepted.

The larva pupates underground. Two or more broods a year are possible.
