The diversity of shape, size, colour and texture of the Giant Silkmoth cocoons has to be seen to be believed.

SILKWORM EGGS Bombyx mori ZEBRA variety
This is not only an attractive variety to rear, with its ringed football shirt larvae, but it is hardy and very fast growing. The best rearing season is May to October. Eggs supplied from October onwards are for hatching in the following year.
We are listing for the first time a number of very differing races of Silkworm that produce varied coloured cocoons, and even have novelty coloured larvae. These are listed individually in their own section, and as collections of some of each variety, under the heading Current Livestock.

Although there are reports of using other foodplants, the only satisfactory food for silkworms is Mulberry. This is sometimes found in the gardens of large houses and old parsonages. Mulberry trees are available from larger nurseries. Any Morus species is suitable: White, Black or any other Mulberry. The larvae eat a lot, so make sure you have a good supply of leaves.
Keep the eggs refrigerated until the Mulberry buds open. In 4-6 weeks the larvae are spinning their cocoons.
