Malayan Jungle Nymph Heteropteryx dilatata 

This is a huge Phasmid, one that has not been available for years!  Kept warm, they grow fast, feeding on Bramble. The female adult is very powerful: when handling use dense gloves because she can grip a finger with her barbed hind legs and easily draw blood! 

The female has only vestigial wings, but in the male the wings are well developed, furled beneath sheaths, and he can fly well.

Nymphs and adults like to drink from droplets, so spray the foodplant regularly to give them the fluid they need.

Eggs are laid in moist compost or sand.  After some months, sometimes more than a year, they will produce sturdy nymphs.
