SPECTACULAR THEMED LEPIDOPTERA COLLECTIONS |
 |
 |
SPECTACULAR THEMED LEPIDOPTERA COLLECTIONS, each contained in a ten drawer large format cabinet, made by Woollard.
These are SECOND HAND cabinets and Lepidoptera Collections. All glass lids would benefit from a clean and polish. Condition of the cabinets varies but all are basically quite smart. Of the collections of Lepidoptera none is perfect, indeed there is much imperfection, but there is great variety and interest at prices that are a fraction of the cost of new cabinets and specimens.
Varnished light coloured ramin wood veneer, the cabinets are stackable. Each 10-drawer unit measures 24.5 x 30.75 by height 23.50 inches. The large-format drawers measure 23 x 29 inches, rather more than twice the size of stardard butterfly cabinets. The drawers are deep enough to accommodate international standard pins.
Condition. The fronts and cabinets are for the most part quite smart. All drawers have glass lids, some with a wooden frame, others have plastic angle frame, not all in matching colours. Some frames are good, others could be smartened up, but all properly perform their task of edging the glass lids. Most drawers are lined with Plastazote, some wall to wall, most have a narrow gap either side. Considering these have been used by Worldwide Butterflies for some 30 years, the overall condition is quite good. If they were re-lined the drawer bases would look nearly new.
We believe that the condition of these cabinets and collections is properly described and illustrated in detail. Bearing in mind that they are second hand we cannot entertain any claim for imperfections that may have been missed in the description. We are confident that purchasers will be more than pleased, particularly at these price levels.
Specimens are not in mint condition, some are quite damaged, but they are very adequate to demonstrate the variety of Lepidoptera, at a price that is substantially below the price of mint cabinet specimens. Identification and origin labels are believed to be mostly accurate but may not be error free. The variety of species, families, countries, sizes, colours, shapes and patterns is quite remarkable. These collections provide the basis for both scientific and artistic appreciation and are extremely educational and beautiful.
The collections are as follows:

G Butterflies in Colour Themes

Collection C BUTTERFLIES OF DIFFERENT CONTINENTS (1)
Please read the introduction to the section for general description of cabinets and collections.
The Cabinet. Two drawers with minor damage to varnished fronts - probably rectifiable. Runners are a little worn but most, not all, run adequately. The glass lids are framed in non-matching plastic angle.
The Specimens. A collection of widely differing butterflies from most continents. A kaleidoscope of colour with great diversity of size, and pattern represented by several of the most important families across the world. These families, include Papilionidae (Swallowtails) Brassilidae (Owl Butterflies), Nymphalidae (Brush-footed butterflies), Pieridae (the whites and sulphurs) as well as others. The collection occupies seven of the 10 drawers. About 70 butterflies. Click View to see all the collection and picture of cabinet front.

Collection K EXTRAORDINARY INSECTS (2)
Please read the introduction to the section for general description of cabinets and collections.
The Cabinet. Eight drawer lids are framed in wood, two in plastic angle. The drawers run quite well, though there may be some wear. It is possible to see where former labels were, but this is not striking and ir might be rectifiable.
The Specimens. There are some very striking giants in this collection, including huge spiders, grasshoppers so large that they would barely fit in a normal drawer, delicately coloured leaf and stick insects (two of them truly monstrous), Lantern Flies, highly coloured Cicadas, Praying Mantids in very divers forms, and shining beetles of just about all sizes. In all there are about 100 specimens. Click View to see all the collection and picture of cabinet front.

Collection L SPECIAL LEPIDOPTERA

The Cabinet. The drawer lids are un-matching plastic angle in poor to fair condition. The drawers run adequately or well. The over all outside appearance of the cabinet is good but might be improved if wished.
The Specimens. This collection is indeed special! Despite that fact that there is a lot of imperfection, the variety of colour, brilliance, extraordinary shape, contrast, subtlety, and size would be difficult to match. Just take a look at the pictures! There are over 140 specimens of butterflies and moths from almost all corners of the Earth. Click View to see all the collection and picture of cabinet front.

Collection N SWALLOWTAILS OF THE WORLD
Please read the introduction to the section for general description of cabinets and collections.
The Cabinet. Eight drawer lids are framed in non-matching plastic angle, two are wood framed. The drawers run adequately or well. Two drawer fronts are spoilt. Ideally they need sanding and varnishing. A third drawer has been made to replace a lost drawer. It is an adequate replacement but is not matching in appearance (not illustrated).
The Specimens. Nine drawers of some of the world’s largest and most spectacular butterflies, the Swallowtails and Birdwings. Some species are tailed, to a greater or lesser extent. Others of the family have differently shaped wings and no tails. Over 70 butterflies are featured. These butterflies are from East and West, North and South, and make a wonderful start to a specialist world collection. Click View to see all the collection and picture of cabinet front.

Collection P BUTTERFLIES OF DIFFERENT CONTINENTS (2)
Please read the introduction to the section for general description of cabinets and collections.
The Cabinet. Drawer lids are framed in non-matching plastic angle, in poor to fair condition. Some runners would benefit from repair to make drawers run smoothly every time, but all are usable. The outside appearance of the cabinet is fair to good but four have some damage to fronts. Three are slight chips. Drawer 3 has water staining that would benefit from sanding and re-varnishing.
The Specimens. This collection is contained in eight drawers and comprises over 75 butterflies from all corners of the world. Splendid and colourful yet varied in form, size, shape and pattern, these butterflies are from the most important families of the world’s species, including some of the largest. Click View to see all the collection and picture of cabinet front.
