Description

Columbian Silkmoth Hyalophora columbia

This is a rather scarce cousin of the Robin Moth H. cecropia. This is the smallest Hyalophora species and the only one whose larval foodplants are conifers. Columbia larvae feed on Larch and Juniper.  Other reported foodplants include Willows and Sallows, Cherries, Birches, Alder, Wild Rose, Eleagnus and Ceanothus.

The cocoon has light flecks amongst deep burgundy silk.

A species that is very difficult to obtain. We have not been able to list it for some years.
